Self Help for Stress
Depression and the motivation to change
I had almost a year off work due to stress and depression. I spent a lot of that time in victim mode, feeling that it was the worst thing that ever happened to me. Now I feel the opposite and if I had the chance, I wouldn’t change a thing.

I didn’t decide to tell my story here because I expect anybody to be interested in me. It is because a lot of people may be feeling the same way I once did. The situation can seem hopeless but I want you to know that you can turn it around.
Different circumstances
No two people will haveĀ exactly the same circumstances and what happened to me may seem trivial compared to someone else. What is important is not the events but the resulting feelings. They can be just as real no matter what the apparent cause.
There are many possible triggers of stress. A lot of people are feeling great financial pressure these days and the economy is not likely to improve anytime soon. Families, relationships and health can all seem to lead to stress and even depression.
What stress really is
The biggest lesson that I have learned is that stress is not what happens to us, but our reaction to the situation. You probably don’t want to hear that when you are down in the dumps. I know I wouldn’t have.
I had several months of being totally dysfunctional before I could even think of looking for a way out. And when I was able to do that, I found that I needed to change me before I could change the situation.
