Meditation audio technology has made the benefits of meditation available to even the busiest of us. I am going to write about some examples that I have used and reviewed, but it might get a bit long.
To save your time, I thought I would put a summary at the beginning. These solutions are not strictly comparable since they have different price points and purposes, but they give an idea of what is available. I will give more details about each of these later.
The Summary
The Holosync solution from Centerpointe
This is the industrial strength version of this type of program. While it does have benefits in terms of stress reduction, it is mainly intended as a spiritual growth tool. It comes with a massive amount of back up material and support.
There are a total of 13 levels to work through although you can stop at any time and maintain the gains that you have already made. This program does require a daily commitment of one hour.
The cost is variable. I have just checked the website and the first level, Awakening Prologue, is advertised for $179 plus shipping and handling, since it is only supplied on CDs.
There are always spring and fall offers and recently there has been a special offer to help people continue the program through the recession. A free demo CD is available to try before you buy.
The other two products are more directly comparable to each other.
Holothink
Yes, it does sound remarkably similar to Holosync, making it obvious who they are talking about when they refer to higher priced alternatives.
Their product that is relevant here is called ‘Totally Tranquil’. It is a one hour audio program designed specifically as a stress relieving tool.
The reduction in stress that you feel, should increase with regular use. But if you just don’t have time, daily practice is not required. They also include a 10 minute, quick relaxation audio for an instant de-stress.
The regular price is $47 for the one hour track and the ten minute bonus track. They come as instant mp3 downloads to your computer, so there is no shipping to pay and no waiting.
They also provide a free demo, with instant access. If you really need to relax, you don’t want to have to wait for the mail.
Unexplainable Store
This is one I just discovered. Though I like to keep an open mind on things, some of the stuff on offer here is a bit new age and out there for me, and their website is disturbingly orange.
It doesn’t have the professional look of the other two, but it does have products that work. They provide a range of stress relief and relaxation products. There is little explanation as to what each one is supposed to do.
Having said that, starting at $5 for some of the programs, it’s not much of a risk to find out. These products are also available for immediate download as mp3 files. They claim that each of their products has a specific purpose and acts in a particular way.
They too have a demo audio that you can try immediately. This is a generic audio that just lets you get a feel for the technology. I must say, I found it very intriguing.
I have suffered in the past from ‘mind chatter’, my thoughts constantly racing out of control. Listening to this track was very effective in stopping that. I found it hard to keep that inner voice going even if I tried to. I will be giving some of their other stuff a try.
Meditation audio technology has been of great benefit to me in dealing with stress. I had tried more traditional meditation methods and although I enjoyed the experience, there were drawbacks.
It took a big chunk out of my day to go to a local centre. These sessions were only available once a week and when I was working, not at all. I found it less easy to achieve the same state of relaxation when I tried to meditate at home.
There is also the problem that you can’t subjectively tell if you are ‘doing it right’. You can feel calm and relaxed and not be achieving the level of brainwave activity that you are looking for.
On the other hand, if you are feeling agitated, it could mean that you are at a deep meditative level and dealing with your stuff. But reaching these deep levels can take years of practice and might never work.
Now, there are technological solutions to all of these problems. As I have discovered, the benefits of meditation are now available to all of us, guaranteed.
