But then, a combination of work issues, my wife’s health, too much to do and no ‘me time’ just caught up with me.

This time, I couldn’t snap out of it. I snapped.

I was totally dysfunctional for a couple of months and it was a long time before I was back at work.

There were times when my mind just wouldn’t shut up. It was like being at a party and hearing snippets of lots of conversations.

Trouble was they were all talking at 90 miles and hour and none of them were making sense. This went on for days and left me feeling physically exhausted. It was impossible to relax.

I’m fine now.  More resilient. Life happens and I just stay calm and deal with it. But it took a long time to get to this point.

It didn’t need to be like that. I should have admitted to myself that there was a problem and looked for the solution earlier.

All I needed was a quick, easy and reliable way to get some down time and recharge the batteries. But that is the problem. All of the solutions seem to involve learning some technique, turning it into a habit and using it over a period of time. You need something that works now.

When you are stressed, there is no point telling you to relax. It’s like telling somebody who is angry to calm down.

I have found that over a period of time, the mind chatter tends to slow down and I experience periods of quiet.

This is nice but it is not the objective. The meditation state is happening regardless of what your mind is doing.

Things are very different now. It’s not that I have less stuff to deal with. Far from it. I am just calmer, more relaxed and happier in my own skin.

Whatever life throws at me, I just know that I can deal with it.
