How to Treat Panic Attacks

If you have experienced a severe panic attack, you will know how frightening it can be. It is all the more frightening when you don’t know what it is. My wife suffered several attacks over a period of more than a year. The medical profession was slow to recognize the problem and when it was finally identified, they offered no solutions. Luckily, we came across our own.

It was when she was in so much distress that I had to call an ambulance that we found out what the problem was. But the paramedics only focused on the physical symptoms. They reassured us that there was no physical danger and tried to get her to control her breathing and calm down. But the nature of a panic attack is that you are not in control.

No Advice

When the attack had subsided, they left, offering little advice about what we should do. They had told us that there was no point taking her to hospital as there was nothing they could do. We had no idea why these attacks came from nowhere, when she was sitting, apparently, relaxed. What we wanted to know was how to prevent panic attacks in the future. I found the answer by chance when I was looking for something else.

The Panic Away Program

It was in the form of a book called The Panic away Program, (It is due to be retitled, ‘The Anxiety Release Method‘). As soon as I saw the website, it struck a chord. Some of the symptoms it talked about were exactly what my wife had experienced. There were many testimonials from people who had been helped by it. I had no idea there were so many people who continued to suffer, despite apparently trying everything. Some people had been having these attacks for years, totally disrupting their lives. At least we weren’t alone.

A Useful Website

The website offers a lot of useful information and you can get more free advice by email. There is also a facility to ask questions about any concerns you may have. It is written by a former panic attack sufferer who, when he couldn’t find a cure , developed this one himself. I think this is why what he says rings true. He talks about one of the main problems with panic attacks being the fear that you will have another one. That was exactly how my wife felt. Any little unusual sensation or dark thought and she would imagine that another one was on the way. Then that would start a downward spiral. The way he wrote about it, it was as if he was talking to us. We had to get the book.

Visit the site

It is quite a long book with a lot of background information and scientific stuff. Doctors disagree on the causes of panic attacks and on how to treat them. This book offers one of the more reasonable explanations I have heard of why they happen. There is also a reassuring section on why they can’t really hurt you and what is actually happening to your body. I think it needs this preamble because otherwise we would be asking, ‘if it’s that simple, why aren’t the doctors offering it’.

What’s in the Book?

The actual method is in three stages. The first covers what is known as the ‘One Move Technique‘. This involves a taking a totally different mindset when you feel an attack beginning. This is not at all what you might expect and takes some getting your head around. But it really does help to overcome that barrier of fear. It helps you to take back control during an attack and reduce the fear of future attacks.

The second stage is about addressing the generalized anxiety level that makes you susceptible to panic attacks. In this more sensitized state, little triggers that wouldn’t bother the average person can start the cycle of fear. There are many little, not too difficult, lifestyle changes that can reduce this anxiety down to a normal level.

The third stage is about making the change permanent. Here, it is explained that this is not an instant solution. If you have suffered for years, you can’t expect to change in minutes. There are likely to be setbacks. But this is part of the healing process. The book offers advice on how to persist and not be discouraged by these bumps in the road.

The Conclusion

After a thorough explanation of how to prevent panic attacks, the last part of this section goes back to what they are all about. It talks about some of the physical sensations that people have and the fears that these produce, like, ‘Am I going mad’, or ‘Am I having a heart attack’. And it gives reassurance that these are usually perfectly natural and nothing to be alarmed about.

The book ends on a note of hope. No matter what your personal history, it is possible to prevent your panic attacks and claim your life back. My wife is so much more positive having used these techniques and I believe that seeing her gripped by fear is a thing of the past. If you are a sufferer or know someone who is, visit the site and at least get the free information.

The Panic Away Program

P.S.

I forgot to mention the videos. I am an avid reader and had no problem with the book, but my wife is not. For people who aren’t so into reading, there is access to the content of the book in video format. I think this also helps to reinforce the learning even if you’ve read the book.

Also, if you don’t have anyone to support you through an attack, there is a friendly audio walk through of the technique. This really helps you to focus when you need it. we found it invaluable.

You are probably suffering from lots of anxiety and stress, and may have possibly had a panic attack recently. Panic attacks are sudden periods of intense anxiety that derive from all sorts of different situations. If this is the case for yourself then you need to look no further than this article to get panic attack relief now. If you have suffered extreme anxiety or a full blown panic attack then you probably want this to never occur again as most people describe it as one of the worst experiences of their lives. There are many forms of relief one can obtain ranging from self help to medication to therapy from a professional.

The first form of panic attack relief we will talk about is going to be self help. There are many things you can do for yourself to make sure this attack never cripples your mind again. It is important to think back on when the attack occurred and what it was that triggered the attack. After you figure out what was triggering the anxiety you can work to stop this from occurring again. If the attack occurred because of a social issue at work or in a relationship, proper communication can work out the problem so that it never reaches such a horrible point again.

If you have panic attacks frequently that have derived from other things you cannot change through communication then you need to find ways to help yourself relax. Taking a warm bath or shower and analyzing ways to change your life for the better so this does not happen again is a great way to relieve stress and anxiety. Perhaps you have a favorite hobby that brings you happiness. If so you should spend more time doing this during the day than usual to help relieve symptoms. Proper exercise such as going for a walk or run is another great way to relieve anxiety and stress. If none of these self help options seem right for you then you should talk to your doctor about a variety of available medications that are for panic attacks.

If you are looking to get panic attack relief now one of the best places to go is your local doctor. He or she will be able to listen to the symptoms you are having and prescribe you a medication or refer you to a therapist who can help much better than they can. Some of the most widely used anxiety medications are those such as Klonopin, Xanax, Ativan, and Lorazepam. One should use extreme care in monitoring dosages because misuse of such drugs can lead to unintended medical consequences. Withdrawal symptoms of the above anxiety medications include but are not limited to: shakiness, headaches, dizziness, trouble sleeping, or in severe cases seizures. If your doctor does end up putting you on one of the above medications be sure you don’t abruptly stop because you will experience withdrawal symptoms if you aren’t weaned off slowly.

While these are not the only solutions you have to panic attack relief, they are among the best. So, hopefully this article has helped you learn a bit more and you will be able to find some panic attack relief now.

Although many forms of drugs are available that help in preventing panic attacks, many seek a more natural approach to this disorder. Several different techniques that provide panic disorder treatments are discussed, including hypnosis, acupuncture, and laughter.

One of these natural panic disorder treatments is hypnosis. Hypnosis can help in preventing panic attacks by relaxing your body using your mind instead of artificial remedies. This technique allows you to focus on individual thoughts instead of overwhelming yourself with everything that’s going on around you. When used properly, hypnosis is an excellent panic disorder treatment because it can change how someone perceives things happening to them. Hypnosis can be used in conjunction with other natural panic attack treatments such as using acupuncture.

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese technique of relieving pain and connecting the body, mind, and spirit by tapping specific pressure points and high energy points in the body. This ancient art is highly effective at reducing stress levels and clearing the body of any negative energy. This release of negative energy may have a significant result in preventing panic attacks. Many therapists use this practice when dealing with natural panic disorder treatments. This drug-free method has been sworn by people all across the world as a great stress reducer and pain reducer, making it a good for panic disorder treatments. Hypnosis and acupuncture are two ways that can be used for panic disorder treatments but there is one major drawback. These two techniques usually require professional help from a qualified psychiatrist.

The following technique, however, can be conducted by anyone, anywhere. This panic disorder treatment is called laughter. One of the greatest pleasures in life is sitting down and having a good laugh. If someone is in a bad mood, laughter can brighten their day and make them feel better. Not only does laughter create better social experiences, it can help the body physically. The benefits of laughter are infinite. At the first sign of a panic attack, a patient could temporarily relieve or possibly altogether eliminate these sensations by simply laughing it off. You may ask yourself “how can I laugh when my disorder is so serious?” One technique is to think of a time in your life when you have laughed uncontrollably. Eliminate any bad thoughts in your head except for this one instance of immense humor. Project yourself to that time and do not allow your mind to wonder. Although this isn’t a proven cure for preventing panic attacks, laughter can drastically reduce stress and ease the mind of any problems that may be present.

It’s true that not all of these panic disorder treatments may be completely effective. In some cases, people may not see any improvement at all. These different panic disorder treatments are merely suggestions to help reduce the chance of panic attacks in the future. Before trying any of these ideas, besides laughter, consult a psychiatrist for a panic disorder treatment that has been targeted towards your specific needs. Remember, the most important thing of all is to believe in yourself that you can overcome panic attack disorder.

One of the most popular ways of controlling panic attacks is through the use of medication, but if you don’t have health insurance or a means of obtaining this medication, you will have to find ways to deal with it on your own. Panic attacks usually occur after you have been under anxiety for a long period of time, and then you come to a point where you feel like you are out of control. Anxiety comes from all sorts of things such as relationship or family problems, stress at a job, inability to pay bills, and just about an infinite number of other things. There are many techniques which can be used to control anxiety and panic attacks without the use of medication that will be covered in the following paragraphs.

Anxiety is generally different from fear in that with fear you recognize an external threat causing the problem. With anxiety, you may not necessarily know what the problem is, so it is a little harder to come to a solution. When you’re experiencing anxiety, you may begin feeling symptoms such as nausea, chest pain, stomach aches, headaches, high blood pressure and heart rate, or sweating. If the anxiety worsens, it can lead to a full blown panic attack which is what we want to help you prevent from happening. So, here are a few ways of controlling panic attacks without medication.

Exercise is a great way to relieve stress and anxiety and prevent you from eventually suffering panic attacks. If you have the money to purchase a home gym or treadmill, this is a great way to relieve stress on a daily basis with a 30 minute to an hour exercise routine. If you are not one who enjoys strenuous exercise, then going for a walk on a nice day is a great way to relieve stress. Throughout numerous medical studies it has been proven that stretching daily or practicing exercises such as yoga can help reduce anxiety. If you have a condition in which you are unable to exercise, then activities such as taking a warm bath or having someone give you a massage also are great ways of controlling panic attacks without medication.

There are many forms of natural herbs that come from the earth that came help you control your panic attacks without medication. Minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, sulfur, magnesium, and sodium will help replace substances depleted from your body due to anxiety. Drinking a cup of chamomile tea a few times a day can also help relieve upset nerves and is a great way to cure panic attacks and anxiety if you cannot afford or take medication. If you are having a rough time sleeping due to anxiety, then St. Johns Wort is just the right solution for you. Take some before bedtime and see if it helps you sleep any better. If St Johns doesn’t work out for you, then you can always try some Valerian root which has worked for many people. Hopefully some of these suggestions will help you in controlling your panic attacks without medication.

When it comes to panic attacks, many people want to know what the best treatments for panic attacks are. This is not a simple question however. Every single human being in the world is different. Different treatments work differently for different people. Saying that one single treatment is better than all others would be far fetched. The best way to find out what is the best treatment for panic attacks is to find out what works best for you. Focusing on what will work for you is the best treatment for panic attacks.

Overall though, the most widely used and most effective treatment for panic attacks is meditation. Meditation, when used properly, is highly effective at reducing stress levels, worrying, rushing, planning, fretting, reducing anxiety levels, and putting you back on a balanced daily schedule. When meditation is practiced consistently it becomes more and more effective towards treatment for panic attacks. Meditation takes you far away from the hardships of day to day life. People can meditate in different ways, that’s why if you are suffering from panic attacks you should use this as somewhat of a template and change things as needed to suit your specific needs.

Essentially the best way to meditate is to get away from the busy struggle of daily life. This can be accomplished by going somewhere alone outside or somewhere alone in a dark room inside. Closing your eyes can help too in trying to separate yourself from your struggles. Once you have removed yourself from everything bothering you try to sit as comfortable as you can. A good technique is to begin by taking deep breaths, holding them momentarily, and then exhaling. Focus of the rise and fall of your chest and imagine releasing your stress with every exhale. Imagine that on every exhale you become more and more peaceful, and your stress seems to disappear. As your chest rises and falls you should try to get lost in the peacefulness of being alone. Keep repeating this process until you feel you are completely satisfied.

If this seems to work for you, then stick with it. Having a routine meditation schedule will drastically improve the affects. You will soon notice your life becomes much less stressful and panic attacks may not happen as often. This could possibly be one of the best treatments for panic attacks. Although some people may disagree, meditation is arguably the best treatment for panic attacks. The reason it is so good is that it can be done practically anywhere at any time. Best of all, this type of treatment is completely free.

Some may say that seeking professional help is the best. Although this treatment for panic attacks is good, it may in turn cause more stress from having to plan meeting times, stressing about what will happen, or stressing from trying to get there on time. On the other hand, meditation does not have a single bad attribute. The next time you are wondering what are the best treatments for panic attacks, consider meditation. Whatever you do, make sure it works for you.
